Susan Heaton-Wright - Be a SuperStar by being YOU

Stagecraft

Everyone has their unique character on stage: energy, personality and image. Yet so often, we compare ourselves to other speakers, even wishing to be more like other speakers rather than celebrating their own strengths and nurturing our own talents. In this practical session, Susan will invite everyone to explore key performance skill areas to ensure you are SuperStars when you speak on stage.

Ian Rose - From Sport to Speaking: Preparation for Performance

Resilience

The ability to stand up in front of a group of people, no matter what the size, is a daunting prospect for some and something that Ian believes he will always get nervous about. Ian has competed and presented to audiences of up to six thousand people, and one of his first steps to being able to do this was accepting the nerves and finding a way to control them.

Ian will share his experiences as a successful IT Sales Consultant, director of his own motivation business, and a double Paralympic medallist. Leaving you with a number of techniques to control your nerves in the lead-up to a presentation and to help you thrive on stage.

Abigail Irozuru - From Sport to Speaking: Performance Parallels

Mindset

Athletes and speakers, though distinct, share parallels. A speaker commands the stage, while an athlete leads from the track. Both hone tactical and technical excellence, delivering well-timed lines or executing a clutch move. The tools to positively harness performance anxiety, captivate an audience, or recover focus and flow after a rocky start are transferable from sports to the stage.

So, from one pro to another, albeit in another field of play, let me share some insights on high performance that you may find valuable to #standout in 2024 and beyond.

Darren Harris - Bitter to Better: How You Perform at Your Best

STAGECRAFT

Paradoxically, we want to stand out from others to show our desirable qualities and achievements as well as fit in with the group for safety and support. However, we can also go too far in either direction: stand out too much, and risk being ostracised and isolated; fit in too much and we become invisible and irrelevant.

But when you do just the right amount of both, you can guarantee sustainable success for your speaking business.
